HELP OUT WHEN YOU MOVE OUT
Be a winner, not a binner!
Donate you Household items and unopened dry and canned food when you move out of student accommodation.
This year the Environment Centre is running a trial project to collect reusable items so that they can be redistributed to those in need, local charities and the Brynmill food bank
This is the first year and we trying to keep controllable so are just covering 3 streets, but if it goes well I want to cover every student house in Swansea so that we collectively can have a massive impact for people and the planet.
What’s the Plan?
From the 4th of June till 29th June if you are a resident of Malvern Terrace, Gwydr Crescent, Marlborough Road and have any items from the leaflet opposite that you don’t need any more, please pop them in the clear bag that will be dropping through your door and leave it on your doorstep. Please don’t leave the bag on the pavement.
The bags will be collected daily (except Sunday) by volunteers and will be sorted and redistributed redistributed to those in need, local charities and the Brynmill food bank. Find out more about the good caused below.
Where will my donation go?
Brynmill Food Bank - Pat’s Food Bank
Brynmill Food Bank is run by local Brynmill legend Pat who has been a key part of the Brynmill community all her life. This year Pat celebrated 45 years of service at Brynmill Community Centre having been there since it first opened its doors in 1979. Pat took on various roles at the Community Centre including including treasurer, booking officer and organising the Brynmill Playscheme as well as arraging outings for numerous children, such as trips to Barry Butlins, swimming sessions at Pontardawe swimming baths, visits to Penscynor Wildlife park and other exciting excursions. In April Pat stood down from her role at Brynmill Community Centre to focus on running her Food Bank. Each week Pat collects donations of money for groceries and contributions of food which can be accessed by Brynmill Residents in need. The remaining items are taken to St. Thomas Church where it is distributed to local families and individuals in need across Swansea. You can find Pat at Pantygwydr Church on a Tuesday, pop in for a chat and a cuppa.
UWTSD Community Cupboard
The Community Cupboard is the brainchild of Michelle Treasure, Kate Williams, Sam Bowen and Bronwen Williams. It is located in The Dylan Thomas Centre and is open Monday to Friday 10:00am - 4:00pm. The Community Cupboard is filled with items donated by the general public and students in there you will find kitchen equipment and utensils, soft furnishings, as well as electrical goods. The items are then checked to make sure they are clean, useable and safe. All of the items in the cupboard are totally free to those who need them. It is open to anyone, particularly individuals and families who are struggling with the cost of living. The Community Cupboard in Swansea is still in its first year and is growing in popularity and is need of more donations to help those in need in Swansea.
