Festive Products and Pop-up Cafe Returns

Bamboo socks restocked

The shop is looking very festive now and full of great festive food products and Christmas gift ideas. We had to re-stock after The Green Fayre and we now have lots of our fun and comfortable bamboo socks back on the shelves, including some new designs, and a good selection of reusable cups, water bottles, bags and scarves.

Pop-up Cafe on Sat 14th December

If you are planning on a trip to the centre to do some Christmas shopping, why not come along on Saturday 14th December when we will be offering every customer a free cup of mulled apple juice. Judy Roots will be here with her pop-up café from 11am – 3pm so you can enjoy some vegetarian and vegan treats to eat in or take away.

Green Fayre Success!

This year’s Green Fayre was a huge success again with over 3,500 visitors over the two days. There were over 70 stalls and the feedback from stallholders has been terrific – in a survey a few days after the event, over 90% said the organisation of the event and the venue were excellent or good. The Environment Centre Green Shop stall sold more than any previous year and our Shop Coordinator had to pop back to the Centre for more stock three times on the Sunday. One interesting statistic: the Centre sold more than 120 pairs of bamboo socks!

Refill Station Popularity Increases

Data on the use of the Environment Centre’s Refill Station has been collected over the past two years and our volunteers recently analysed the figures and prepared an infographic display to illustrate some of the key changes over the past two years (see below). The Highlights include:

  • The range of products and brands has increased from 10 products and 3 brands in 2017 to 20 products and 4 brands currently available.
  • The level of refill sales has doubled from around 100 litres per month in 2017 to over 200 litres per month this year.
  • The total number of plastic bottles saved through refilling over the two years is approx. 2,800 (based on number of litres sold).
  • Refilling saves a significant amount of cost for customers but has also raised over £1,700 for the Environment Centre in the past two years.
