New Community Wind Farm Share Offer

Awel Amman Tawe are launching a Share Offer for their community windfarm. The two turbines will generate clean energy, and feed all profits back into community projects in the local area.

Director, Dan McCallum said, “We have set up a Community Benefit Society, Awel Co-op, which will wholly own the wind farm – www.awel.coop  –  and we’d like to invite people to invest in it from as little as £50. This will be an opportunity to own some Welsh wind power, take action on climate change and get a return on investment.”

The project has been developed by Awel Aman Tawe, a local charity. Full planning permission is in place for two turbines totalling 4.7 MW on Mynydd y Gwrhyd, about 20 miles north of Swansea.

There is a two week window for this Offer. The Share Offer is open until November 23rd 2015. This will enable investors to claim existing tax relief before it is withdrawn by the government:

  • Due to the timeframe, we are allocating Shares on a first come, first served basis
  • Shares available from £50
  • Projected 7% Rate of Return
  • Our target is £500k – the first £150k may be eligible for SEIS tax relief (50%); and any above that may be eligible for EIS relief (30%)

COP1, 2 and 3 Swansea: climate change discussions, performance and film screenings

Emergence – in association with The Environment Centre presents:

COP2 SWANSEA

For two weeks in November and December 2015, the world’s leaders will come together in Paris for COP21, a crucial conference to try to achieve a new international agreement on climate change, aiming to keep global warming below 2°C. Hundreds of thousands of people from around the world are also going to Paris to make their voices heard… but like lots of us who care deeply, we can’t be there. So, we’re bringing it back home.

COP SWANSEA (1, 2 & 3) – Three events combining discussions, creative offerings from local performers, and film screenings. Three opportunities to share our concerns and solutions; to talk about our fears and plan actions; to get better informed about the scale of the challenge and what we can all do to play our part in changing things for the better.

COP2 – Saturday 28th November 14.00 – 20.00

Environment Centre, Pier Street, SA1 1RY

We are very excited to be hosting COP2 at The Environment Centre in conjunction with Emergence. There will be a special screening of The Age of Stupid as part of the event.

The Age of Stupid (2009)

The Age of Stupid stars Oscar-nominated Pete Postlethwaite (In The Name of the Father, The Usual Suspects, Brassed Off) as a man living in the devastated future world of 2055, looking back at old footage from our time and asking: why didn’t we stop climate change when we had the chance?

Director: Franny Armstrong

Digital Streams Photographic Exhibition open

Come and see the Digital Streams Photographic Exhibition at the Environment Centre.

An exploration of the waterways and natural environments around the Townhill and Blaenymaes areas and their surroundings.

The Digital Streams project is a collaboration between Natural Resources Wales and Sustainable Swansea, with help from the Big Lottery Fund.

The project aims to increase people’s awareness of and interaction with their local streams, rivers and waterways through the use of digital photography. Over the course of the project, groups and individuals were invited to take part in a variety of events from short ‘taster’ session through long, more in-depth explorations of their local environment.

The main part of the project took place in the Townhill Wildlife Corridor which runs along the hilltop looking out across the city and Swansea Bay.

The exhibition of over a hundred photos taken by Swansea residents highlights the rich diversity of habitat to be found within a short distance of Swansea’s city centre. It will be open until the end of November!
