Seminar On The Well-being Of Future Generations Act With Sustain Wales, 22nd Sept 2015

The Well-being of Future Generations Act (WFG Act) will have a major impact on the way that public services are delivered.

In response, Sustain Wales are delivering a seminar: ACT NOW, ACT FAST, ACT FACTS: Making the Most of the Well-being of Future Generations Act. Two seminars will take place on 22nd September 2015 at the Environment Centre, Swansea.
Session 1: Morning 09.30 to 12.00 OR Session 2: Afternoon 14.00 to 16.30

This CPD certified interactive seminar will focus on the following:
 Background and context to the Well-being of Future Generations Act (WFG Act)
 What the WFG Act is trying to achieve
 How your organisation could work towards implementing the WFG Act’s goals
 How to begin reporting what you do in the context of the WFG Act and how doing so will be beneficial for your organisation
 What the WFG Act requires Public Service Bodies to do and how this might impact on the private, social and voluntary sectors
 What the WFG Act means for Wales, for business in Wales and for doing business with Wales

Batik Workshop: Saturday 15th August 2015

We have a fantastic Batik Workshop coming up at the Environment Centre with eco-artist Sara Holden (Sculpture By The Sea). Saturday 15th August, 10am – 3pm at the Environment Centre.

Batik is a wax resistant dye technique to create images and patterns on fabric. The art form originated in Indonesia and has been practiced there for centuries.

Use leaves and plants to inform and inspire a batik artwork. You’ll also make a willow frame to set the artwork into, ready to hang at home or to give as a gift to someone special.

Free Digital Photography Course With Sustainable Swansea

A great opportunity to learn the basics of digital photography as you help to create Sustainable Swansea’s green map!

This FREE course will get you out and about exploring and photographing the natural and built environment around Swansea’s City Centre. The course will run on the following Tuesdays: 28th July, 4th August, 18th August and 25th August 10am – 1pm.

Based at the Environment Centre in Pier Street, each day will include a theory session followed by a photography walk where you can practise what you have learned. The final session will cover basic photo editing techniques using Photoshop. All of the information and photos gathered during the course will go towards making the new Swansea Green map.

Gower Cycling Festival: Sat 8th to Sun 15th August

The Gower Cycling Festival is back!

This year for the sixth festival, the Wheelrights team are offering eight days of led rides for all abilities in and beyond the beautiful Gower peninsula. The 21 rides range from short and flat to challenging rides into the hills including visits to places of interest such as a Gower Farm with a vineyard and a folk evening.

New this year is a central base for campers and tents. The site at Dunvant RFC will be a convenient base from which most of the rides will start.

Also this year’s programme is more family friendly, so it really is a Fetival for all. The Festival Registration fee set at just £5 means it it is great value too. Especially as this entitles holders to unlimited rides, and under 16’s ride free!

Environment Centre Finance Manager

The Environment Centre, has for the last twenty years, been working to help make South West Wales an environmentally sustainable region, where the natural environment is valued and protected.

We are looking for an experienced and enthusiastic person to become a key member of our core team, alongside our Centre Manager and Resources Officer. Your role will be to manage the charity’s finances on a day-to-day basis, running our payroll, preparing management accounts, budgets, costings and reports for our trustees and funders. This vacancy would suit someone with experience of charity accounting, who is looking for a part-time flexible role supporting a team with a passion for sustainability and the environment.

Location: The Environment Centre, Swansea

Hours: 14 hours per week

Salary: £27,012 (pro-rata)

Many people and organisations in Wales are doing great things under the umbrella of sustainable development. It is the intention of Cynnal Cymru-Sustain Wales to highlight this, to praise the achievements and showcase good practice.

Peter Davies, Commissioner for Sustainable Futures, said “I am pleased to see recognition for the work done by individuals, organisations and communities in this field. It is important that we share what people are doing and thank those that are leading the way in improving Wales for future generations. I hope the Cynnal Cymru-Sustain Wales’ Awards will be a great success.”

Through the Awards Cynnal Cymru seek out and praise the best examples of their kind, cross-sector, across Wales. Applications are welcomed from people and organisations, the community and businesses, local authorities and other tiers of government.

The first Awards ceremony, held in the Wales Millennium Centre on the 19th November 2015, will be a great event in the Welsh calendar

The Sustain Wales Awards will close for applications on the 31st July and online voting will take place throughout September.

Winners will receive a Sustain Wales Award and Certificate and have full use of the Sustain Wales Awards winners’ logo to use on publicity. Each winner will also receive full Cynnal Cymru-Sustain Wales membership. The Awards ceremony, held in the Wales Millennium Centre on the 19th November 2015, will be a great event in the Welsh calendar.
